Our story with Klinika Bocian is actually quite short compared with the many years we spent trying to have a baby. In March 2023, I came to the clinic for a hysteroscopy. From the very beginning, we felt that we were in the right hands. In the meantime, my husband underwent his own tests as we tried to find the cause of our difficulties. Ultimately, we turned out to be a couple with no clear explanation for our fertility problems.
That summer, we started with an attempt to conceive “naturally,” using an injection to trigger ovulation. Unfortunately… it didn’t work.
By that point, I was so determined that immediately after this first disappointment, we started a long stimulation protocol, followed by egg retrieval in early autumn. I remember that there were only a few follicles, but the Doctor told us not to lose hope – having only a few did not mean that nothing would come of them.
I remember that day perfectly. I was sitting at work on pins and needles when suddenly the clinic called. This time, the embryologists did not have good news for us. None of the embryos had developed well enough to reach day five. Those of you who have been through this know exactly what it feels like – a thousand thoughts racing through your mind at once. Until finally one question emerges: “What happens now?”
Once I had pulled myself together after the first tears, I called Klinika Bocian to make another appointment with Dr Niemoczyński. He explained in detail what might have caused the unsuccessful attempt. He encouraged us to rest, clear our heads, wait for the parliamentary elections and see what would happen afterwards.
But my desire to expand our family was stronger than anything that might be happening around the IVF programme. Before our next attempt, this time using a shorter protocol, we underwent genetic testing and waited about a month for the results – so that became our time to “rest.”
Fortunately, this time we had more follicles. After the egg retrieval, we called the clinic every day to ask how our little group was developing – and we made it! It was our first small success! At that point, we felt that everything simply had to work out.
December 16 – a day we will probably remember forever! Our first embryo transfer!
Then we waited for the beta-hCG test to give us 100% confirmation that it had worked. It was our first truly joyful Christmas. We knew that by Christmas the following year, it would be magical because there would be three of us!
And so, on August 30, our family grew with the arrival of our baby boy – 57 cm of our love and 3,480 g of our happiness! As I watch our little one sleeping peacefully, I find myself wondering why I waited so long before seeking help from Klinika Bocian.
If I could give one piece of advice to people who find themselves in a situation similar to ours, it would be this: don’t wait and don’t waste precious time.
